Strategic Competitive Analysis & Targeting

(AKA: "Intelligence Preparation of Your Corporate Battlefield)
"S.W.O.T. styled analyses are the Number One cause of S.A.D.D. (Strategic Attention Deficit Disorder).
At best, they create self-fulfilling prophesies.   At worst, they create self-licking ice cream cones."

The real question is not so much about what your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats are.  Rather, the truly strategic issue is, “what are my elements of corporate power and influence?”

Don’t get us wrong.  SWOTs are great.  They are easy to do and they don’t require a great deal of time, money or effort..... and we would counter that in terms of comprehensiveness or fidelity, you get exactly what you pay for with a SWOT.  SWOTs are quick, but there is a time and place for them.  They do lack comprehensiveness and their inherent weakness is that there is usually poor causality between strengths and weakness and how they translate into threats, or opportunities.

Allow us to introduce you to our Intelligence Preparation of the Corporate Battlefield or IPCB.  Consider it a “SWOT on Steroids”.    It is a consultative exercise for your “C-Suite” leadership that is adapted from military-styled Strategic Joint Targeting methodology.   If it’s good enough to enable strategic level knowledge-based decision making in war, it probably has a great deal of traction for your Corporate Battlefield as well.

Our IPCB also examines Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, but does so in a far more disciplined and extensive manner.  We establish your Strengths and Weaknesses in how you SHAPE, UNIFY and OPERATE in a series of strategic domains that represent the comprehensive and strategically relevant aspects of your Corporate Battlefield.  These issues only become Opportunities or Threats based on the comparative nature of your Corporate Battlefield, your adversarial environment and your competition.

The IPCB is targeted as an interactive exercise between SRTC and your senior executive decision makers (“C Suite).  Prep time for SRTC is one to five days depending on research requirements and client customization requests. The duration of the actual exercise with C-Level players is usually one to two days depending on the complexity of the client, the complexity of competition, or the nature of the particular corporate battlefield.  Feedback and results of your “actual” strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats are instantaneous.  You also get a unique product from this exercise - your Corporate Critical Intelligence Requirements, or CCIRs.
